The Delta and the Path to Sustainability
Water for Tomorrow book
Volume 1, Number 2
Environmental Science: Water Pollution
Summary...The Sacramento- San Joaquin Delta is at risk with climate change, earthquake risk, and rising sea levels. The delta holds a very diverse amount of wildlife. But is now collapsing. The Delta's peat soils some islands are now 15 feet or more below sea level which can lead to catastrophic flooding and loss of life and property. The Delta also provides reliable, clean water but if not saved, water will be haulted causing drought. Nine of the native fish are now going under extinction due to many factors like invasive species competing over food or the 1 billion gallons of wastewater being dumped in the delta. The Bay Delta Conservation Plan is helping revitalize the Delta. It is being funded by water users and public input.

Reflection...I chose this article because it interested when it came to the water source for California and also the natural environment. It is very sad how many species are going extinct because of our wrongdoings, there are other resources but we should not be a resource at all. We should be protecting the Delta and not polluting it. There is still hope for the Delta because of the BDCP. It is still getting approved but atleast there is still effort being made in trying to save this piece of land.
